Baby P is a Banana!

How far along?  21w
Total weight gain?  I have gained 10 pounds so far.
How big is baby?  I found this week’s fruit odd as she’s the size of a banana.  Now I think about it, it is the length of the fruit itself.  Still, I look back to the time when we first found out, 10-11 weeks she was the size of a plum/lime.  Sometimes I find myself catching other people with the current week’s fruit and think of Haley.
Maternity clothes?  Yup.  Still using my prepregnancy shirts as they fit quite well.  I was shocked they’d last this long.  I figured by now I would be in 100% maternity, but not really.
Stretch marks?  Fortunately, none so far.  I hear that if I find myself wanting to scratch my belly from being itchy, I shouldn’t as that causes stretch marks.  I have no idea if that is true or not.  True, I’ve been itchy, but not by much.
Sleep?  Wow, last night was my first sleepless night.  Haley seems to be a bit active during the day except last night she was active all day including through the night.  On the upside, I was able to feel her just for a little bit longer.  I still seem to go with or without the comforter.  I just cannot make up my mind.
Best moments this week?  We are all set with the crib!  All we need next is to get the rest of the furniture, which is not a lot since her room is on the smaller side.  I hope she knows we are working hard on getting her room ready.
Food cravings?  Wow, few days ago, my craving for some fries and nacho cheese came back with a vengeance just as I predicted.  So we went out to get me some and that really did hit the spot.  Last week, I tried with cheese crisp and the craing only went away temporarily.
Food aversions?  Nothing else new to add.  Pretty boring in this area…
Labor signs?  Nope.
Belly button in or out?  Still in!  The opening seems to get a bit wider than I remembered.  My dad was teasing me that when it does pop out, then we know the “turkey” is done.  Haha!
What I miss?  Sleeping on my belly for sure.  I am a dynamic sleeper, sometimes I find myself on the belly, or almost, and needing to adjust.  Then there are some days where beer is delicious on a hot summer day.  Few nights ago, we went out for some pizza and when our drinks arrived.  I got a beer while Ian got a cherry Coke.  The woman realized that it went to the wrong person and fixed it.  It was little things that I find cracking me up.
What I am looking forward to the next few weeks?  We plan to continue working on the room and possibly starting our registry.  Ian is still eyeballing the glider/ottoman he first found.  We shopped around and it looks like the only one he likes is from the first time we found it.  Quite comfortable and the back part of it is tall enough for Ian.

Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for hydration and nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies are most interested in tastes they’ve already experienced through amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you want your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.

Baby P is a Cantaloupe!

How far along?  20w
Total weight gain?  I have gained 9 pounds so far.
How big is baby?  Looks like she is the size of a cantaloupe now.  At 11 weeks, our first ultrasound, she was about the size of a lime.  Wow!
Maternity clothes?  Still using my prepregnancy shirts as they fit quite well but definitely not my jeans.  So they’ve been temporarily stored away.  Rest in peace…  Until next time!  My maternity bottoms have been nothing but comfortable!
Stretch marks?  Nope, not so far.  I have been told if I find myself feeling itchy in the belly to try and refrain from scratching away.  They say it’s the cause of stretch mark.  Hmm…  I would think it’s from the dryness?  I’ve been lotioning up in the mornings as I have always done all these years for some moisture.
Sleep?  This past week has probably been the most uncomfortable I have been trying to sleep.  However, I noticed that I sleep better with just the sheets rather than with comforter as well.
Best moments this week?  Ian had the chance to feel Haley move around a bit.  It’s been surreal that I have a little one growing in me.  I can imagine she’ll only get stronger as time goes by.  I am also halfway through this pregnancy.  Wow!  20 weeks!
Movements?  I remember feeling some flutters maybe as early as 13 or 14 weeks.  Really felt like being tickled from the inside.  The last week or two, it’s been feeling more of a muscle spasm type of feeling.
Food cravings?  The other day I wanted french fries and nacho cheese for some reason.  I couldn’t find it nearby or had the chance to go to the store.  I did settle down for some cheese crisp.  That did help a bit.  I’m pretty sure the fries and nacho cheese would return soon.
Food aversions?  Nothing else new to add.
Labor signs?  Nope.
Belly button in or out?  Still in!
What I miss?  Definitely sleeping on my belly.  This is also how I take my naps.  I haven’t had a nap in a while like I did in most of my first trimester.
What I am looking forward to the next few weeks?  We will be purchasing some furniture for the room and continue to work on the registry.  Ian did find this glider/ottoman he especially loved.  I tried it and it’s quite comfortable that I thought I would fall asleep in the store.

Baby’s digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, speaking of the diaper situation… baby’s genitals are now fully formed!

Baby P is a Mango!

How far along?  19w
Total weight gain?  It’s been about the same.
How big is baby?  About the size of a mango.  I found a website that also mentioned at 19 weeks, the baby is the size of a grapefruit.  What got to me was last week was the size of a soda can.  I was looking at my ginger ale in awe that she is growing from when we first found out, about the size of lime or so.
Maternity clothes?  It would appear that some of my t-shirt are growing out a bit.  Not too bad as I wear them on the weekend.  They are comfortable!  I have made the switch to maternity bottoms.  No maternity tops though, some of the Forever 21 shirts works just perfectly.
Stretch marks?  Nope, not so far.  I hope it can stay this way for as long as possible.  I’ve been slatering some lotion on to give some extra moisture to allow for skin flexibility.
Sleep?  I think I am lucky to sleep through the night.  It can be difficult to find a comfortable position.
Best moments this week?  I would say it was our first trip out to Babies R Us for a “look only” trip.  Basically, we walked around the store and see what is out there and get some ideas.  The main thing is we were able to decide the car seat and the stroller.  I think that was the most memorable feeling for me.  I found myself thinking just how do we get this thing to work?!  The seats are adjustable but we couldn’t quite figure out how to “unadjust” the seat back to where we found it.  We moved on to something else.  I look back and thought it was actually funny as first time parents.  It made me realize when we make the trip to the hospital, we would ride with an empty seat and returning home with the infant carrier occupied with a baby.  Oh!  I am also nearly halfway through this pregnancy.  Wow!
Movements?  It has started to grow more noticeable but nothing certain if I want to catch it by feeling my belly.  For most part, it sure is ticklish as heck!  I feel like I would crack out laughing at any point.  If I lay on my back, I think I may feel her jumping around.
Food cravings?  I follow what I crave and it seems to still be cereal in the mornings.  We also bought some ice cream for me, Cookies and Cream.  Now I know why those ice cream runs out so fast at my parent’s house when I was growing up.  I could never seem to have enough!  After I had my bowl, I would go back to the freezer to sneak maybe several more bites.  Yikes!
Food aversions?  Nothing else new to add.
Labor signs?  Nope.
Belly button in or out?  Still in!
What I miss?  I think I finally have something I can say that I’ll miss.  I miss sleeping on my belly or laying on the floor to play with the dogs.  At this point, I’m laying on my side if I am on the floor with our dogs.  They really love climbing on me from my stomach but have had to push them aside or move them in a different position so I can be comfortable.
What I am looking forward to the next few weeks?  We plan to make more trips to the store and looking at the things for Haley’s room.  We found a lot of cute clothes and shoes for Haley.  Even have Converse shoes for babies!!!  I thought it was so hilarious and I just love it!  I think we came to terms with pink and having some reasonable amount of pink.  Although we seemed to have chosen an earth tone theme for her room.

Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby’s skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

Baby P is a Sweet Potato!

How far along?  18w
Total weight gain?  So far it’s been about 8 lbs.
How big is baby?  About the size of a sweet potato.
Maternity clothes?  Still wearing half pre-pregnany and half maternity clothes.  I am in maternity bottoms now and the tops can be mixed.  They are quite comfortable.
Stretch marks?  Nope, not so far.
Sleep?  It has become a habit to get up in the middle of the night.  Must be preparing me for the future!  I am lucky if I can sleep through the night or even stay up until 10:30pm.
Best moments this week?  We found out the baby’s gender.  We are having a girl!  She even gave us a thumbs up.  Also, I had been telling some people at work of the pregnancy and many of them are thrilled!
Movements?  Seems that I am starting to feel the baby move as I watched during the ultrasound today.  I think she is sitting quite low and hanging near the u-cord.  It will definitely be something to look forward to as time goes by.
Food cravings?  I still seem to eat whatever I wish.  I just follow what I am craving and making sure I try and eat healthy.  Dark chocolate has been appealing me.  Nom nom!  Plus, Ian brought me 1 pound of Toblerone.  WOW!
Food aversions?  Still not liking olives and mushrooms.  Nothing else new to add.
Labor signs?  Nope.
Belly button in or out?  Still in.
What I miss?  Doesn’t seem I’m missing much or nothing is really coming to mind.  Although it is hotter during the summer, cold beer sure looks appealing.  I know I will be able to have it again in due time.
What I am looking forward to the next few weeks?  Next thing that will be happening is the preparation of Haley’s room.  The first step is to decide on a theme.  I think we prefer not to have pink.  For Ian, it has to do with his previous painting experience.  For me, I am not fond of pink and won’t know what to do with it.

Your fetus has become amazingly mobile (at least compared to you), passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, baby’s finally big enough that you’ll be able to feel those movements soon.

Baby P is an Onion!

How far along?  17w
Total weight gain?  not sure - no scales at home!  So far it’s been about 8 lbs.
How big is baby?  Approximately the size of an onion, 5 inches.
Maternity clothes?  Right now, I’m doing half and half.  Some of my shirts still fit.  I will be moving into maternity bottoms soon.  They’re amazingly comfortable.
Stretch marks?  Nope.  Hoping they can stay that way if they can.
Sleep?  I’ve gotten used to getting up routinely in the middle of the night to pee.  If I am lucky, I can sleep through the night.
Best moments this week?  Must be from buying the maternity bottoms as they were incredibly comfortable.
Movements?  I may be feeling some movement although I think it is quite light for me to be certain.  It will get stronger as time passes.
Food cravings?  Still craving cereals in the morning mostly.  Berries Captain Crunch!  Salsa is another.  Ian had brought home some dinner, fish and chips with cocktail sauce.  Oddly, the cocktail sauce was delish.  I usually would push them away and ask for tartar sauce, but not this time.  Then there is the Bahama Buck’s, I had a sudden craving for this one night and after having it, it definitely hit the spot.
Food aversions?  Still not liking olives and mushrooms.  Nothing else new to add.
Labor signs?  Not even close, I’m far from it.
Belly button in or out?  Still in.
What I miss?  I’ve been thinking about sushi but consuming raw fish is a big no-no during pregnancy.  However, I can still have California roll or Philadelphia roll as it doesn’t have raw fish.  Once in a while, watching Ian down his beer makes it look too good.
What I am looking forward to the next few weeks?  I will be planning my next ultrasound and another follow up doctor’s appointment.  Most likely we will find out the gender very soon.

Baby’s skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. The umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes are now topped by one-of-a-kind prints.
